1917 Picasso en Barcelona
Special Exhibition Held
The Picasso Museum in Barcelona contains the world's most complete collection of Picasso's youth works, more than 3,800 of them, which makes it the largest exhibition of the artist's early years. Picasso was very close to Barcelona since his youth, so he wanted the city to have his memory forever. Open to the public in 1963, the Picasso Museum was created in the city by the artist's own wishes and with a collaboration of his friend Jaume Sabartés. It is a must visit museum if you are in Barcelona! The permament collection at the Picasso Museum has more than 3,800 works from different periods of the artist, most of which belong to his stage of formation and youth. The Picasso Museum also shows its visitors the extraordinary series of "Las Meninas", which belong to the artist's blue period, and a wide and extensive program of temporary exhibitions that complement the permanent collection.
From now until January 28, the Picasso Museum hosts the exhibition "1917. Picasso en Barcelona", to celebrate the last extended stay of Pablo Picasso in Barcelona. This period in the artists´s life was very interesting from the artistic point of view, since it was time when he searched for new sources of inspiration, during which the artist alternated between the most rigorous canons of Cubism with a more classic and realistic line. The Picasso Museum conserves all the oil canvas (except one), created during his Barcelona´s period and left in the family house since he could not get them out of Spain, as he told Gertrude Stein in a letter.
The 1917 Picasso en Barcelona exhibition contains paintings, preparatory drawings of the paintings and independent drawings, seeking to gather the maximum of its production during the months spent in Barcelona. You will also see the documentation of his life in Barcelona, which not only shows his work as a painter, but also his leisure moments: corrida shows, visits to theatres, contacts with friends, tributes received and participations in civil activities, among others. Do not miss this opportunity to enjoy Barcelona and get to know the city better with Homes in Blue!
